Cahill Family and Friends Gathering 2008:
Please share this with others and remember – this isn’t just for family – friends and neighbors are planning on being there as well.
The place:

If you haven’t heard from the resort about your reservation by now call them. The cabins aren’t held just for us and if you don’t get a cabin reserved in time you may not get one. At this time twelve cabins have been reserved that I know of. We have reserved cabin 24 for us and our kids and grandkids; there is some extra room on the floor if you don’t mind an air mattress or if you would like you kids to stay with our kids so you can have some “alone time” that would be fine. We will have our golf cart and four wheelers to get around on; will also have at least one boat available for fishing, tubing, etc.
At this time the only group activity planned is the train ride from
We will gather for morning coffee at our cabin (24) and get together in the evening around
We will have a birthday party so if anyone has a birthday during or near that time let me know so we can include them as an activity, especially for the kids (even if they are 60 or so).
Mary Ann is going to put together a cookbook – Sooo – go through your cookbooks and email your recipes to (REMOVED). If you have a picture of someone you would like to put next to a recipe please include the picture and where you want it. In June we will be asking how many cookbooks everyone would like.
Alyce has volunteered to do a family DVD prior to the reunion. She asks that everyone send her a picture of your family with names, addresses, and birthdates of all members. She will compile it with pictures from the past of our parents, grandparents and ancestors then show the DVD at the reunion and add any pictures of activities etc to make a finished product. She would then make copies for all those that would like a copy of the DVD. Sooo get your latest family photo and get it and the information to her as soon as you can so she has plenty of time to work with them; her address:
Email for INFO
Bonnie is looking into shirts for the reunion, Soooo if you can email her a list of the number and sizes you may be interested in she can get started designing and pricing them.
Pat is going to provide a banner with our family crest and everyone’s name; Soooo email her the name’s of those you would like included so someone doesn’t get left out. Also, she is putting an address list together with current addresses, birthdays, birth places, phone numbers and email addresses. Please forward your to her if you haven’t already.
There has been some discussion of a “kiddie bag” for the little ones, with maybe a T-shirt, goodies, or things for kids to do while the grownups visit. This is just in the “discussion” stage so if you have any input please let me know.
All this may sound like a lot to do but this can really be a memorable week for everyone if we all participate. Please don’t hesitate to suggest or volunteer or anything.
God Bless and see you all in August.

Ok, I’ve been a little slow on getthing information posted. I did get the two emails from Tanya Cahill and if you’re interested, shoot me an email. I’ll forward it on to Tanya.
**Email from Tanya Cahill - March 25, 2008**
Hi Everyone,
Looks like I’m going to be the point person for the Durango train ride. I have talked to group sales and if we want to sit together this is the way it goes. Once I have a head count, I make the reservation and I have 10 days to pay half of the total due. The rest is due 30 days before the trip. They do not take individual family monies. So if you decide to do this, I will ask that 1 person from each family be responsible for getting their families money to me and I will write one check. For the trip we can either do the train round trip 3 1/2 hrs each way or, train up and a bus back. Then you need to let me know if you want the outside gondola car or the inside seating. Maybe we could do some of each and switch around? We did the outside once and it was nice. The price is as follows, train round trip is 75 for adults and 45 for kids 4-11, the train/bus combo is 89 for adults and 59 for kids. The sales person told me that the bus fills up quickly so, if that is your choice please let me know sooner rather than later. When you reply please give head count adults/kids and seating choice/train r/t or combo.
Looking forward to Aug 08,
Tanya Cahill ![]()

Thanks,

After much consternation and flipping of coins, our family reunion will be at Durango Resort on The Lake, 20 miles North of Durango, Colorado. Web site is www.durangoresortonlake.com It is not restricted to family members, if you have someone you would like to bring along or invite please feel free, there will be plenty of room.
The dates will be Aug 11 thru 18, 2008 with the “big” weekend being Aug 17 and 18. You may reserve your cabin now. You will be contacted in Jan, 2008 for the deposit and final arrangements. Mary Ann and I have reserved cabin 24 and should have extra room. We plan on being there Aug 9 and leaving Aug 18.
When you reserve a cabin let me know, I’ll put you on my list.
I plan to start a monthly newsletter in January, 08 to keep everyone abreast of plans and what’s going on. This will be done by email. Not sure of eating arrangements (the plan for now is to eat togeather in the late afternoon), activities or anything. Hope to have that done by June, 2008. If you have any questions, input, requests, would like to volunteer for something, or anything please don’t hesitate to step up.
Please feel free to contact me at anytime.

A couple weeks ago, Dennis Cahill called and informed me that a Reunion is in the planning stages. Tentatively scheduled for August 2008 around Durango or Cortez Colorado. That is about all I know for now but please check back for updates. Also, if your interested in attending, shoot me an email so I can let Dennis know. He’s trying to make arrangements with local business and having a rough headcount gives him some bargining power.
Looking forward to seeing everyone

Every once in a while, we all have reasons to Celebrate. These days, long gaps occur between the reasonings but the joy is no less deminished. I want to congratulate one of the Cahill Family members, Dennis, on his recent achievement of Deaconship. Here is Dennis (far right) doing what he does best, standing around grinning…. Congrats Dennis !!

It’s always slow trying to dig up information when the people your investigating didn’t leave much. I have plenty of questions about the past and very few answers.
I sometimes wonder what 2 generations from now will think or know about us. We’ve quickly replaced paper with email’s and instant messages. We’ve gone from paper documents to electronic. The scribbled notes I have of past relatives gives me an ideal of who they were. The letters to brothers, sisters, parents, friends or other relatives gives us a glimpse of their thoughts or who knows, their ability to spread a good yarn. Either way, it’s something they created, their hand writing, my avenue to them. I sometimes wonder, what have we created that will be researched by our decendants? Will there be anything to reflect who we were, what we thought or will we be remembered just as that old guy or gal.

I want to thank everyone that has sent me items, both by email and snail mail. I’m quickly reviewing all the new information and will get it posted in the next day or so. I’m still learning and I know one thing I need to start is a history file or recent postings. I’m open to suggestions, if you see something I can do better please let me know.

I think I’ve got all the data posted in the Genealogy finally. While it’s not much, it is a collection of several people’s hard work and investigative skills. If you wish to add, change or point out obvious errors, please don’t hesitate to send me an email. I’m in the process of reviewing some pictures I have and will be posting them shortly.
